Please note that this event consists of two parts – Pervasive Drama The Memory Dealer and a talk by creator Rik Lander

The viewing of audio-visual entertainment normally takes place in ‘safe’ environments such as the home or the cinema where the environment is conducive to full immersion in a narrative world. With mobile technologies, however, the sights and sounds around the viewer are distracting. Emotional engagement can easily result in a physical manifestation that then becomes visible to others occupying that space but, crucially, not sharing in the moment of engagement.

Can transmedial dramas that take place away from the comfort of the cinema or living room be as emotionally engaging? By taking audiences away from such a safe viewing space can we offer an immersive experience that transcends mere empathic engagement?

For this presentation audience members will experience part one of The Memory Dealer, Rik's pervasive drama. He will then discuss the findings of the research and which techniques of storytelling work best with transmedial drama.
