Join us for this Lunchtime Talk to find out about two exciting projects Studio residents are developing with funding from the Technology Strategy Board

The project Enabling Media Designers to Use Public Data for New Businesses and Mobile Apps will be presented by Calvium's Product Director Tom Melamed. Calvium have created a set of tools that help designers create Smartphone applications, but - until now - haven't been able to offer support for integrating those apps with internet resources, like open data feeds or social media. Tom will talk about the challenges of helping non-programmers to link to these resources and the different approaches that Calvium are taking to make this process easier.

It’s a Touch Thing is a project to develop a hardware and software platform that allows event organisers, advertising creatives and artists to make powerful and entertaining touch-based experiences. The project takes technologies like NFC/RFID or QR – which have traditionally been used in purely functional ways, like the Oyster Card – and develops them into exciting personalised media experiences for entertainment or information. It’s a Touch Thing is a project by Rik Lander, interactive storyteller for entertainment, education and commercials; and Tim Kindberg, computer scientist and founder of matter 2 media
It's a Touch Thing is recommended for those looking to submit an application to the Embedded Artists Residency. Tim Kindberg will also be available after the talk, to discuss ideas with interested applicants.

This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week

Do you want to find out what is going on at the Pervasive Media Studio? Are you interested in meeting our residents, talking about a specific project or curious about pervasive media? Why not pack a sandwich and join us for one of our Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday.

Lunchtime Talks are informal presentations by Studio residents and associates. They normally take place at 1pm on Friday, are free and open to everybody who’s interested in what we do.

After the Talk, we also invite you to stay with us for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Our open afternoons close at 5pm, usually with a trip to the bar.

Let us know if you haven’t been to the Studio before and we'll be happy to show you around! Send an email to Shirin@pmstudio.co.uk and we will meet you at 12.30pm for a quick tour.
