FEED is a multi-touch music app being developed by inter-disciplinary organisation Incidental.

The app enables complex, rich manipulation of a “live feed” of sound, drawn from the inbuilt microphone of an ipad or an audio file loaded into the app, enabling users to create complex real-time compositions from a range of sources, from musical inputs (such as a voice or orchestra) to spoken word or “found sound” on the streets of a city.

Grounded in Incidental’s experience with schoolchildren over a range of music and new media projects, the software is designed in a simple, intuitive way so that non-specialists and younger audiences are quickly be able to create rewarding, aesthetically interesting results, and is designed for use in a large range of contexts - from live performance to music education classes or new forms of interactive soundwalk or museum tour.

During this presentation David Gunn will explore the theoretical and practical background to the project and offer an exclusive preview of the first working prototype of FEED.

FEED is developed with support from Arnolfini and Head For Arts.

This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week.

Do you want to find out what is going on at the Pervasive Media Studio? Are you interested in meeting our residents, talking about a specific project or curious about pervasive media? Why not pack a sandwich and join us for one of our Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday.

Lunchtime Talks are informal presentations by Studio residents and associates. They normally take place at 1pm on Friday, are free and open to everybody who’s interested in what we do.

After the Talk, we also invite you to stay with us for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Our open afternoons close at 5pm.
Let us know if you’d like a tour of the new space and we'll be happy to show you around! Send an email to Jason@pmstudio.co.uk
