Tine Bech is a visual artist and researcher who work with interactive installations and public art. Her work combines electronics, location tracking technology and the environmental elements such as gravity, water, sound and light to create playful experiences for curious visitors.

Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally, in venues including Victoria and Albert Museum, Sackler Centre (UK), The Science Museum (UK), SIGGRAPH Art Gallery (USA) and Aarhus Centre for Contemporary Art (DK). Recent projects include Catch Me Now, an interactive light installation at the Victoria and Albert Museum and The Big Swim, a light Installation for the Cultural Olympiad.

In this talk Tine will introduce her latest projects, including the challenges she has faced creating artistic works that utilise indoor sensing sysems. She will also describe how development of artistic projects inform her doctoral practice-based research at the Digital Cultures Research Centre, which focuses on: the development of a model for making playful and interactive artworks; and the creation of a directory of play, demonstrating the different kinds of play that are initiated through interactive artwork. Ultimately, the model aims to encourage audience engagement through play and physical participation. With a presentation from Tine and (if it's working in time) a project demo, this is set to be an inspiring session.

This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week.

Do you want to find out what is going on at the Pervasive Media Studio? Are you interested in meeting our residents, talking about a specific project or curious about pervasive media? Why not pack a sandwich and join us for one of our Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday.

Lunchtime Talks are informal presentations by Studio residents and associates. They normally take place at 1pm on Friday, are free and open to everybody who’s interested in what we do.

After the Talk, we also invite you to stay with us for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Our open afternoons close at 5pm.
