Exploring Your Subconscious
In this Lunchtime Talk '24 Most Influential Bristolians Under 24' nominee Yasmin Joan Qureshi will be introducing her new workshop series from her project 'Red Telephone' & how they interlink with her own creative practise.
Hosted by
Yasmin Joan Qureshi
Yasmin Joan Qureshi is an artist based in Bristol. Her work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions and galleries around Bristol such as Spike Open and Spike Test Space. Yasmin’s work is drawn from personal experience. In her early life she spent time in hospital due to chronic illness, then at seven, Yasmin underwent major surgery to remove a tumour. She has returned to this moment repeatedly in her work, describing the themes of psychological trauma and body image. Creating art work has become a way of processing her feelings and reconciling these difficult memories into tangible art pieces.Utilising Donald W Winnicott's therapeutic technique Squiggle drawing. the workshops explore the subconscious and focusing on a specific experience conflicting the mind and coming to terms with that through drawing. With the help of 3D printing expert Dan Melville, we will be exploring the drawing as an object and the further meaning and significance it offers to the individuals taking part.
Joining Yasmin at the talk will be co facilitator and BACP accredited Psychoanalytical psychotherapist Karin Qureshi to further discuss this new use of Winnicottian theories and techniques through creative workshops and open the discussion of exploring new ways in making therapy more accessible.
