Hannah Jayanti and Alexander Porter are co-creators of the speculative documentary 'Truth or Consequences' about time and how we weave the past into the present and our possible future. After Bristol City Council’s declaration of a major incident in the area ahead of Storm Eunice, we are following their advice and closing on Friday. Open Studio Friday is cancelled but will return next week and our Lunchtime Talk will be online only
-------------------------------
This talk will be held online!
Forty kilometers outside the small desert town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, sits “Spaceport America”, a private space mission launch center. In the long shadow of progress, local residents find meaning in a world that others choose to leave. The film *Truth or Consequences* has been described as a “thrilling formal adventure that never loses sight of the tenderness with which it treats its subjects” using many intertwined formats to create a lyrical meditation on progress, history, and loss in a changing world.
Collaborators Hannah Jayanti and Alexander Porter will describe their process in creating the speculative documentary film *Truth or Consequences*. How to create experimental non-fiction projects outside narrative conventions without losing sight of what’s important? Can we create projects that are political in form, subject and labor practices? The project comprises a feature film, a collaborative local film festival, an interactive web experience and a bespoke virtual cinematography tool. They will share their iterative, community-based approach to creating non-fiction stories and ethics of non-fiction narratives.
Join us online on YouTube Live on Friday 18th February 2022 at 1pm for the talk and to take part in the discussion afterwards.
