WormSlayer testing out his new Oculus Rift
After the talk we will be joined by Bristol games developer WormSlayer who will be demo-ing an Oculus Rift, a prototype Virtual Reality headset that has been taking the tech world by storm.
Last year creators Palmer Luckey and Nate Mitchell took to crowdfunding platform Kickstarter hoping for $250,000 to develop their low latency VR design with expanded peripheral vision. They raised $2,437,429 and attracted a passionate community of supporters in the development and gaming community itching to get their hands on a development kit to mod and design games for this medium. Virtual Reality is by no means a new form, but there is a sense that the hoped for immersive experiences touted in the 80s and 90s never really came to be, and that with the integration of new screen and sensor technologies, now is the moment to revive the genre. The Oculus offers a tantalising step in this direction.
This will be the first opportunity anyone in the region has had to see for themselves what all the fuss is about. Demos will be available subject to capacity http://www.oculusvr.com
