New and Emerging Talent residencies 2015
From July to September 2015, robotics startup designer Vitória Maurício, game designer and producer Roz Dean and composer and designer Thomas Williams will be joining us for the Pervasive Media Studio’s 2015 New and Emerging Talent residency programme. The programme enables those at an early…The ‘biscuit gives’ or ‘stepping stones’ or whatever I’m calling it these days has been progressing well. It has entered the third prototype and I’m eager to have a working version for the presentation next week.
I’m hoping the showcase will be a good opportunity to gauge how approachable the design is and where else it can be used.
Things I need to think about include –
How do I explain the instructions to the user?
How will people know what to do with the box?
What’s the invitation to play?
How can I make the experience more playful?
How will I invite the passer-by to step on the pressure pad?
What noise will the pads make when stepped on?
What’s in the box?
How will this encourage social interaction?
What exactly am I testing?
Fortunately the box is flexible to try out different combinations of sounds and responses. Currently we are entertaining the idea of using a voice to instruct the players. To make the design more playful, the box will only open when a particular combination of the pressure pads are pressed.
It will be interesting to see if the audience participate with the installation and whether the concept will be successful prototype.
