The Locus Solus Residency
For this lunchtime talk we welcome Mutiny a new public art organisation inspired by the potential of bringing new stories and experiences to audiences across the UK and Europe.

Sophie Mellor, Simon Poulter and Marcus Romer
Sophie Mellor has a collaborative practice established over the last fifteen years, working across disciplines but with a specific interest in art and social transaction. Sophie is a founding director of CAMP, a new artist-led creative & professional development network based in Plymouth, and is currently the Coordinator of CAMP – www.camp-plymouth.org. She is also currently a freelance Artist Educator at The Box, Plymouths’ Museum and Art Gallery, working with local school children. Simon Poulter has worked within the art and technology sector for twenty years. He has established a national profile both as an artist and curator, working with all of the UK’s leading art and technology organisations. Marcus Romer is a Director, Writer and Filmmaker. He is currently Acting Artistic Director at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds. Recently he directed for the National Theatre in Wales where he created ‘As Long As The Heart Beats’. He has been Associate Artist at Theatre Royal Stratford East and Harrogate Theatres and a producer for Collusion.Mutiny (Sophie Mellor, Simon Poulter and Marcus Romer) are currently undertaking a two week residency at Pervasive Media Studio, developing their new project 'Locus Solus'.
For this lunchtime talk, Mutiny will talk about iterative practice and shared devising working within the context of making new physical and digital work. They will discuss live theatre, design, YouTube unboxing videos, augmented reality and making things for public spaces. They will be joined by leading AR specialist Nicolo Carpignoli, who has been working with geolocated ar.js.
During their residency at PMS, Mutiny will be working with playwright Roy Williams; cultural consultant Lara Ratnaraja ; Stefan Kazassoglou and Garry Haywood from Kinicho; and Nicolo Carpignoli to research and develop Locus Solus. After this R&D phase, Locus Solus will go will go out for testing nationally before being developed as a large scale touring project.
This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week.

Why not pack a sandwich and join us for one of our Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday. Lunchtime Talks are informal presentations by Studio residents and associates. They normally take place at 1pm on Friday, are free and open to everybody who’s interested in what we do. After the Talk, we also invite you to stay with us for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Our open afternoons close at 5pm. Let us know if you’d like a tour of the space and we'll be happy to show you around just before the talk.
