e-merge_a filmmaking mscape was commissioned by Birds Eye View 2009 as part of the film festival's Innovation Programme at the ICA, 5-13th March 2009, and is set in St James's Park. Funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

e-merge is Jackie Calderwood's current project exploring how media could enhance our experience of landscape, using moving image created in response to place. In a dynamic relationship between artist/designer, artefact, experience and audience/user, to what extent is freedom of choice possible?

Visitors to the park are provided with a PDA & headphones and offered a choice of music especially commissioned for the mediascape - which becomes the soundtrack to their walk and the resulting film. Walkers can watch their films in the park or later online. The website shows routes of walks, and the resulting films, in a celebration of the diversity of the individual within a collective experience.

More e-merge events are planned over the spring and summer, and Jackie will be re-mapping the landmarks of central London onto Weston Super Mare as part of an e-merge workshop with local students.
