Bambo Soyinka is an award winning writer, director and curator.  With more than a decade’s experience in multi-platform storytelling and production, she has initiated and directed projects across the UK and internationally.

Bambo collaborates with others to create stories, performances, films and books. Her stories tease out relationships between the mundane and the mysterious, the magical and the mythical. Story first and media second, audiences can experience her work through a range of platforms and modes of distribution, including gallery exhibitions, print, online environments, theatre and site-specific locations.

Her projects explore themes of desire, deception and disappointment. Dial 419 for Love, developed through WalesLab, is a multiplatform mystery inviting participants to explore the worlds of romance scammers and their love victims. The drama blurs the lines between fiction and reality.  Who are the performers? Who are the players? Where does deception begin and end?

During her time in the Studio, Bambo was part of UWE's embedded research centre, DCRC, developing Translating Tales of the Trickster, funded by the AHRC, is a network and development project exploring the Trickster, an enduring character from folklore who is never quite what we at first think him to be and still appears today in differing guises across the world. 

Bambo has worked with leading national and international organisations, including the National Theatre Wales, the BBC, Channel 4, the Berlinale, the Arts Council of England, the Arts Council of Wales, the British Council, the AHRC and the ESRC. She began her career with Victoria Real, an interactive media company (now part of Endemol), leading a team of six people designing multimedia content for the BBC and Channel 4 and working on the first ever Big Brother series. In 2009, she organised an innovative, open space workshop event in Sofia for film makers, artists, mythologists and writers from across Bulgaria, Greece and the UK. 

Bambo was awarded a Doctorate in Virtual Futures at Cardiff University.  She has ethnographic and media research training and is a Senior Lecturer in Filmmaking and Creative Media at the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education.
