Marcus Smith is a media creative based in Bristol, working across radio, immersive media, and digital storytelling.

A recent creative practitioner on StoryTrails, the UK’s largest immersive storytelling experience, Marcus contributed to the nationally touring project that was honoured with a Webby Award and an SXSW Innovation Award nomination. His work on StoryTrails blended archival footage, augmented reality, and community voices to reimagine local histories in new, interactive ways.

As a producer and presenter, Marcus creates original content for BBC Radio 4, the BBC World Service, and Bristol’s community station BCfm, often focusing on social and cultural heritage, technology and the environment. His work with the BBC has taken him to New York and connected him with stories and collaborators across the globe. His distinctive soundscapes and storytelling approach reflect a deep curiosity about how people connect through place, memory, and media.

A recipient of a Developing Your Creative Practice grant from Arts Council England, Marcus is currently exploring the relationship between sound and objects in both physical and virtual environments. His interdisciplinary practice draws from field recording, archival research, and experimental audio production.

He was recently selected for the Develop XR programme delivered by BFI and Screen South, where he is developing new work that pushes the boundaries of immersive audio and interactive storytelling within extended reality.

Beyond his creative work, Marcus is an avid explorer of Thai food, a follower of football fan TV, a keen traveller, and a daily drinker of redbush tea. He is always seeking new ways to blend technology, storytelling, and culture into accessible and emotionally resonant experiences.
