Olli Tapio Leino wrote his PhD dissertation on the phenomenology of computer game player's emotional experience for the Center for Computer Games Research of the IT University of Copenhagen. For the spring semester of 2009 he was a visiting research student at UWE’s Play Research Group.

Olli's field of study was game studies with a paticular interest in the emotional potential of single-player computer games. Drawing on the works of J-P. Sartre, H.G. Gadamer and R. Solomon, his research explored how games can present themselves as coherent worlds and how such coherence can contribute to the emotions of individual in-game encounters.

In the past Olli has been involved in research projects with Nokia and Ubisoft, on themes ranging from democracy and regional development to emotional multiplayer games. He co-edited "Extending Experiences", an anthology about computer game player's experience.
