Mirrah Foulkes's astonishing debut feature reimagines the classic puppet show as a blackly comic, endlessly inventive feminist revenge tale.
It's the mid-17th century in the anarchic town of Seaside (uh, actually nowhere near the sea), and husband and wife puppeteers Judy (Mia Wasikowska) and Punch (Damon Herriman) are trying to resurrect their marionette show. A traditional story has been brought back to new life with a great cocktail of feminist revision, English pop lore and anarchic comedy and it is very, very good fun. Enjoy.
