Ride Your Wave is the latest release from acclaimed director Masaaki Yuasa (Lu Over the Wall, The Tatami Galaxy).

The story follows Hinako, a passionate surfer, and Minato, a firefighter, who fall madly in love, but when Minato dies in an unfortunate accident, the supernatural events that follow give way to an earnest exploration of grief, heartbreak and love. Hinako, upon finding she is able to summon Minato to reappear in water whenever she sings their favourite song, is initially ecstatic for them to be reunited, but must ask herself what this reappearance means and choose how to respond to it.

A quirky and imaginative expression of a love story, admired by fans for its ability to simultaneously stir up laughter and on a more sombre level to explore the feeling of loss; Ride Your Wave remains open to interpretation right until the very end.
