Anthologies of Care

Gentle/Radical: Anthologies of Care

Streaming + Live stream

Please note: This event took place in Nov 2020

This event is organised and curated by Cardiff-based Gentle / Radical.

You're invited to Anthologies of Care - an online afternoon of short films, spoken word and in-conversations around self-care, restoration, reparation, and the potential of healing justice work across individual, collective and inter-generational spaces.

"Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare” - Audre Lorde.

Anthologies of Care will gently disrupt existing associations around self care (bath bombs, hot yoga, kale smoothies) and instead focus on some of the more political contexts of the movement. They will be asking how necessary is self-care and healing to sustaining our activism in a world where systemic violence and inequality are, for many, the norm? And explore ideas of care - and who gets cared for - as they intersect healing, trauma, race, class, power, ecology, and collective and intergenerational spaces. The team will also be screening a series of short films - taking in a community bathing space in East London; a grandmother’s relationship to flowers; through to the genesis of a Black-led women's queer and trans healing project.

Anthologies of Care is curated by Rabab Ghazoul from Gentle Radical, Roseanna Dias and Holly Muse, with a line up of very special contributors including: Karen Larbi, Adeola Dewis, Will Taylor, Tony Hendrickson, Adibah Iqbal, Zahra Ash-Harper, Mary Anne Roberts and spoken-word artist, Malizah.

About Gentle/Radical

Gentle/Radical is a Cardiff-based artist-run organisation that draws on arts and community practice to democratise cultural spaces. We’re interested in how art can be fundamentally useful in and to society, and how long-term and hyper-local cultural engagement can feed into lasting renewal for communities. The company works across contemporary cross art form practice, socially engaged cultural activism; community development; celebration/ceremony/ritual; and the work of inter-faith, consciousness and healing justice.
