Chadian director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun returns to his home country to create this powerful and poignant film about the sacred bonds between mother and daughter.

Single mother Amina (Achouackh Abakar Souleyman) discovers that her 15-year-old daughter Maria (Rihane Khalil Alio) has not only been expelled from school, but has also become pregnant and does not want to have the baby. Knowing the potential fate of a child born to a teenage mother all too well, Amina is determined to help her daughter seek out an abortion.

But in the capital city of Chad, this prospect proves extremely difficult as the procedure is condemned both by religion and law. Being forced to navigate a patriarchal society and finding solidarity in each other and with the women around them, can Amina and Maria find the answer they need?

Presented in partnership with Afrika Eye.
