From the director of 2004's Innocence, this is Lucile Hadzihalilovic's first English-language feature film that is just as ambiguous and mysterious as her previous work; a body-horror noir where your perception shifts and twists over the course of the film.
Somewhere at some point in the mid-20th century in an unknown part of Europe, a man named Albert (Paul Hilton) is employed to look after young girl Mia (Romane Hemelaers) in a blacked-out apartment. Mia's teeth are made of ice, frozen from her own saliva which is collected in a strange contraption over the course of the day.
The girl never leaves the apartment, where the shutters remain permanently closed. The telephone rings regularly and the mysterious Master enquires after her wellbeing. Until one day, Albert is instructed that he must prepare Mia to leave...
