A couple’s rendezvous plans are turned upside down by an evil spell in Alexandre Koberidze’s modern fairy tale about ill-starred love, mysticism, football and street dogs.
In the bustling city of Kutaisi on the Rioni River, summertime romance and World Cup fever are in the air. After a pair of chance encounters, pharmacist Lisa (Ani Karseladze) and football player Giorgi (Giorgi Bochorishvili) find their plans for a date undone when they both wake up magically transformed. With no way to recognise each other, will they ever meet again?
Shot on beautiful, textured 16mm and scored with elegant classical music composed by the director’s brother, it’s hard not to be wooed by this playful film that asks the audience to close their eyes when the curse is about to take effect. The film ebbs and flows through the everyday with moments of magic peppered throughout in possibly the most entrancingly feel-good movie of the year. This is fantasy-romance at its very best.
