Writer-director Jonathan Glazer maps the geographical and psychic terrain of war-time Auschwitz and its inhabitants with chilling precision.

The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig (Sandra Hüller), strive to build a dream life for their family in a beautiful house and garden. An unsettling detail about their home is that where their garden wall ends begins a much taller wall with barbed wire - which holds the concentration camp.

Shot on location in Poland, Glazer has filmed the story of this family using a network of surveillance-style cameras to portray a dark and often paradoxical part of human history.
