Where do the memories of a city go?

From visual artist Steve McQueen comes an exploration of how the past haunts our present.

The documentary creates two interlocking portraits. The first shows Amsterdam’s devastating Nazi occupation through door-to-door accounts. The second is a vivid journey through the last years of pandemic and protest on the streets.

Combining the two has a transformative effect in which McQueen opens up a poetic, dreamlike space.
