The documentary creates two interlocking portraits. The first shows Amsterdam’s devastating Nazi occupation through door-to-door accounts. The second is a vivid journey through the last years of pandemic and protest on the streets.
Combining the two has a transformative effect in which McQueen opens up a poetic, dreamlike space.
