Glitching AI Systems

Glitching AI Systems

part of Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event ended on 1 November 2024

This week we are welcoming artist, writer, researcher, curator, and creator of Cybernectic Forests, Eryk Salvaggio.

Eric will be joining us remotely talking us through the role of noise in Generative AI systems.

Noise is required to make these systems work, but too much noise can make them unsteady.Eryk will share how he works with the technical and cultural noise of AI to cover assumptions about "humanity" that have informed the way they operate.

About Eryk Salvaggio

Eryk has a masters degree in media and communications and applied cybernetics. He has spoken at film and music festivals such as SXSW (Austin) and Unsound, hacker conventions such as DEFCON 31, and is a researcher for AI Pedagogy Project of the metaLAB (at) Harvard University who has published on AI myths and social impacts with Tech Policy Press.

Where to find us

The Lunchtime Talks take place in the Pervasive Media Studio, which is in Watershed. The Studio is just beyond the Café & Bar, turn right and then go down the corridor to your left (where the toilets are). The double doors here will be open, go all the way down until you reach the Studio. A member of staff will sign you in, and check your ticket, if you have booked.
