Sudan, Remember Us
classified 12A SDirector Hind Meddeb captured the hopes of the 2019 youth-led revolution in Sudan, which saw a brutal regime overturned, but which was ultimately hijacked by the country’s military leaders.
Arriving in Khartoum just after the fall of dictator Omar Al-Bashir, Meddeb documented a movement fuelled by art, poetry and protest, as young Sudanese demanded democracy and unity. But celebration soon turned to tragedy with a brutal military crackdown, giving way to a full-blown war.
Through the frontline stories of Shajane, Muzamil, Maha, Rufaida, Hamza and Eros, Sudan, Remember Us bears witness to a generation’s courage and creativity amidst huge oppression. This is a rare and powerful document of hope, resistance and a reminder of ever present danger when the world looks away.
