Move Over Darling
Lunchtime Talks
Please note: This event took place in Nov 2014
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.
This lunchtime talk is guest presented by Watershed producer, Victoria Tillotson
Watershed recently awarded a Micro-residency to performance artist Tom Marshman, supporting him to develop Move Over Darling, a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) history project that he began in 2010. Since this time, Tom has worked with local communities in Bristol to collect older LGBT peoples' stories, from which thus far, he has created a moving performance walk.
The work is rich with memories - sordid, heartbreaking, triumph over adversity, and politically charged - that are often linked to specific Bristol locations. Tom is using this short residency at Pervasive Media Studio to research ways in which the memories could be shared using digital technologies, and to develop ideas for a new version of his live performance that directly links to location. So far he's put stories in his pockets, wants whispering pearl earrings, has discounted Global Positioning Satellites, and is interested in interruptions.
Join us to hear Tom describe his work, share the ideas he has developed so far during the residency, and welcome all reflections, feedback or thoughts about his ideas in progress, that you may have.
The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
