Award-winning Canadian director Jennifer Baichwal reunites with celebrated landscape photographer Edward Burtynsky in this visually arresting and enlightening documentary to explore the ways in which humanity has shaped, manipulated and depleted one of its most vital and compromised resources: water. Journeying across the globe, the film bears witness to our complex relationship with this most precious of resources, via spiritual gatherings on the mighty Ganges, the untouched majesty of Northern British Columbia, to its engineered manipulation through the breathtaking industrial might of the Xiluodu dam in China. Whilst weaving together the various roles it plays in our everyday lives, as well as in art, Watermark offers a vast examination of water's necessity in our global and economic survival. Shot in stunning high definition video, with visuals that will sweep you away, this hypnotic and contemplative film serves as both a warning and a challenge to audiences on how best we might serve the future wellbeing of our planet.
