Multimedia and Food - The Experience of Eating
Lunchtime Talks
Please note: This event took place in Feb 2015
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.
In this week's talk studio resident James Wheale introduces a new start up called Understory which are applying neurogastronomy, storytelling and emergent technology to create compelling dining experiences. From orgasming puddings to eating with EEG brain scanners, they are dedicated towards understanding our most common behaviour as a species; dining.
Eating may well be the most multi-sensory experience we have. Combining sound, aesthetic, colour, smell, taste, mouthfeel, temperature, memory, emotions, culture, context and company with every bite. James will be speaking about Understory's exploration of neurogastronomy; an emergent field that combines neuroscience with eating to explore some big questions; from the future of the food industry to what makes us human.
The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
