Deaf Conversations About Cinema: Couple in a Hole

Deaf Conversations About Cinema: Couple in a Hole

Event

Please note: This event took place in April 2016

Director Tom Geens’ new film Couple in a Hole brings a profound oddness to this darkly funny, very moving tale of a couple who quite literally live in a hole. They are John and Karen, a Scottish husband and wife who have decamped, for reasons unknown, to the French countryside, where they eke out a simple, almost feral existence in the woods, foraging for food, water and resources and staying away from the villagers in the valley below.

When Karen is bitten by a poisonous spider, however, John is forced to visit the nearest village, where he meets passer-by André. They strike up a cautious friendship, but John hides it from Karen, with tragic consequences.

The Mon 11 April 18:10 screening will include Descriptive Subtitles (a service for our Deaf and hard of hearing customers that displays additional auditory information on the screen). This screening will also feature an introduction by Bristol artist and filmmaker David Ellington, who will also lead a post-show discussion with audience members. This will also feature simultaneous BSL (British Sign Language) interpretation.

After the film, from 19:55, join us for Deaf Conversations About Cinema, an informal discussion about the themes of the film in the Café/Bar (Deaf and hearing audience members are both most welcome). You’ll receive 10% off drinks with your cinema ticket – so grab a glass and let us know your thoughts about Couple in a Hole.
