Bodyoki - Shaping The Way We Move To Music

Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event took place in May 2016

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

Studio resident Tristan Powell has 30 years production experience in the music industry and describes himself as a music polymath. He is developing a new way of interacting with music using body language and gestures. He hopes to create a new type of performance royalty which will deliver revenues derived from the audience's interaction with music. Tristan wants to change the focus of attention towards individuals and groups of people in the audience allowing them the ability to expressively mix parts of a song using dance moves via a 'technology bridge' that connects them to DJs & bands.

Artists have received royalty payments from the buying, downloading, broadcasting and streaming of their music. At the same time the value of music due to it's ubiquitous existence on many platforms seems to have declined and relatively little is being done with technology to innovate new ways of injecting value back into the process of interacting with music. Bodyoki aims to place a value on the the way people expressively move to music and also change the role of music in fitness.

In this Lunchtime Talk there will be some demos of prototype technology and a potted history of what Tristan has seen in the music industry that led him to start this innovative journey.

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
