Accidentally Preserved: Surviving Slapstick on 16mm

Slapstick 2017

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Jan 2017

Slapstick comedy shorts were excellent fodder for the home movie companies of the 1920s and 1930s. Kodascope and Pathéscope rented or sold safety film prints for people to watch in their homes, not realising that decades later these copies would out-survive the 35mm prints originally in circulation.

In this special programme, curated by silent film historian and filmmaker Ben Model and hosted by Goodie Bill Oddie and Infinite Monkey Cage star Robin Ince, come and discover some of those rare and hilarious slapstick comedies starring comedy performers whose work has been largely forgotten.

With live accompaniment from Guenter A. Buchwald.
