A group of terrified passengers fight their way through a viral outbreak whilst trapped on board a blood-drenched bullet train, in this fast, fun and highly entertaining zombie-fuelled thriller.
A mysterious viral outbreak has pushed Korea into a state of emergency. As the government declares a state of martial law, divorced, workaholic Seok-woo and his daughter Su-an board the bullet train from Seoul to Busan to see her mother, unaware of the panic consuming the nation. The bad news is someone onboard has also been infected. With the train barely out of the gate the hurtling carriages are sent into complete chaos following a series of savage attacks that are turning the crazed passengers into zombies. And as the living dead transform the voyage into an excursion of nightmarish proportions, both father and daughter - plus a small disparate group of uninfected passengers - must fight for their survival as they attempt to hold off the zombie onslaught that is closing in on them.
Receiving a standing ovation at this year’s Cannes film festival, this exuberant spectacle is exactly what zombie fans have been waiting for. And in the best tradition of the genre, director Yeon Sang-ho (The King of Pigs) employs a strong social commentary - critiquing his country's class system as well as its controversial reaction to the 2012 MERS virus – without skimping on innovation and propulsive, adrenaline-fuelled action.
