Tailoring Composites
Lunchtime Talks
Please note: This event took place in Jan 2017
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.
The light weight and high strength of composite materials such as Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) means that more and more applications for its use are being developed, from cars, to aircraft, to bridges. Bristol has played an important role in the history of these materials, and now hosts a world-leading research group at the University of Bristol (UoB), and the UK’s National Composites Centre (NCC).
In this week's talk designer and Studio resident, Tom Metcalfe will present some of the developments of his recent micro-residency at NCC and UoB. His work explored the ideas of craftsmanship, sustainability and the complementary processes of traditional tailoring and composites manufacture.
The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to studio@watershed.co.uk
