The Killing of a Sacred Deer
classified 15Please note: This was screened in Nov 2017
Director Yorgos Lanthimos (director of Bristol favourite The Lobster) returns with another wildly original, deliciously twisted film - an astonishing mix of Greek tragedy, surrealism and supernatural thriller.
Colin Farrell is Steven, a cardiac surgeon who enjoys a picture-perfect life with his wife (Nicole Kidman) and two children. Unbeknownst to his family, he has formed an odd paternal friendship with fatherless teen Martin (Barry Keoghan), so he finally decides to introduce him. It's not long before things start to get very strange indeed - and the motivations of Martin become frighteningly clear...
With great camerawork, fine acting (Farrell and Kidman have never been better) and perfect writing (it picked up the Best Screenplay award at Cannes), The Killing of A Sacred Deer is a must for anyone who cares about bold filmmaking - enjoy.
