Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Jan 2018

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

In this week's talk join us as we welcome and hear first hand from our three New Talent Residents; a truly eclectic bunch covering everything from Bristol’s LGBTQ+ history to African diaspora to home appliances that talk back.

Firstly, Artist Alec Stevens and creative technologist Nicola Hogg will be combining their practices to develop a street game that challenges participants to use secret language to find their partner. Seeking out sculptures and stories along the way, players will uncover Bristol’s LGBTQ past and rediscover a city they thought they already knew.

Secondly, poet Lawrence Hoo and filmmaker Michael Jenkins will share how they are working together to develop an immersive experience spanning three cargo containers, that shares the triumphs of people of the African diaspora.

Thirdly, designers Vytautas Jankauskas and Jon Flint aim to heighten our understanding how new technologies change the way we live and socialise, and what information we take for granted. Through the creation of a series of home appliances, they hope to satirically expose our relationship to social media and the impact it has on our perception of time, distance and normality.

Do join us to celebrate their ideas and learn more about their processes, motivations and inspirations.

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to studio@watershed.co.uk
