The Square

Director Ruben Östlund (Force Majeure) returns with this Palme d'Or-winning hilarious satire on art, culture and communication in the digital age.
Christian (Claes Bang) is the curator of a respected art museum in Stockholm. On the verge of opening his next exhibition (a daring installation called The Square that examines altruism and our duty to help others), his life (and the museum's) is thrown into crisis with a series of troubles including a backfiring PR campaign, an awkward fling with a journalist (Elizabeth Moss) and a performance centrepiece gone horribly, horribly wrong...
With pitch perfect performances and a stunning sequence involving the aforementioned performance piece at a donors' dinner (special mention must go to the amazing movement artist Terry Notary for this setpiece), this is a jaw-dropping, unique and often surreal look at the art world, political correctness, free speech and artistic liberty. One of our favourites of the year - enjoy.
