A troubled 20-something woman living in Jersey finds her herself pulled between the control of her oppressive family and the allure of a secretive outsider suspected of murder in this astonishing psycho-sexual thriller from debut director and Encounters alumni Michael Pearce.
Moll (Jessie Buckley) is the black sheep of her stiff-upper-lip family. After escaping her own garden birthday party in favour of a night out with strangers, she meets Pascal, a rugged hunter with a guarded past, and makes a rash decision to move in with him. He's just the tonic she needs but when a local teenage girl goes missing following a string of murders, Moll must decide what, and whom, to trust...
Shot with an intense visual style and with an eye for detail that recalls Andrea Arnold, this is a genuinely sexy British thriller that is a rare beast indeed.
The 19:30 screening on Sat 28 April will feature a Q&A with director Michael Pearce, who’s short film Keeping Up with the Joneses screened at Encounters Film Festival.
- There will be a Cinébabies screening (for parents/carers of babies under 12 months) of Beast on Mon 30 Apr at 11:00.
