Diane Kruger picked up the Best Actress prize in Cannes for her role in this riveting thriller, winner of the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, about a grieving woman searching for justice.
Loving wife and mother Katja's (Kruger) life falls apart when her Kurdish husband and their young son are killed in a bombing in Hamburg. Struggling to cope with the shock and her tremendous grief, she becomes obsessed with finding the perpetrators and understanding the reasons behind the seemingly senseless killing. The resulting trial of the neo-Nazi suspects pushes her towards a moral crisis in her desperation for both justice - and revenge.
A politically charged tale of grief and violence in modern Germany from director Fatih Akin (Head-On, The Edge of Heaven), it asks questions about how liberal societies should deal with home-grown terrorists - and how the victims of right-wing violence should/could fight back...
