Pouring a pint of cider

Watershed Cider Festival

Posted on Wed 26 April 2017

Summer is coming and to help get you in the mood we're celebrating that most wonderful of summer drinks – the humble cider.

Summer is coming and to help get you in the mood from Monday 1 May we will be celebrating that most wonderful of summer drinks – the humble cider. We have teamed up with the Bristol Cider Shop who have hand-picked a selection of the finest that the South West has to offer and for the next two months we will be tempting you with some guest ciders. Our selection will change regularly giving you ample opportunity to experiment and broaden your cider knowledge.

All of the feature ciders are ‘proper’ ciders – which means they are made from 100% fresh cider apple juice and they are all from within 50 miles of Bristol. The selection will cover a wide range of tastes and styles from some of Bristol Cider Shop’s favourite producers so there should be something for everybody. Give them a try - we challenge you not to find one you like!

James Talljaard, General Manager says:

"It's great that for our second Watershed Cider Festival we are working with Bristol Cider Shop bringing some of the best of local ciders to a wider audience, I do hope you can come and sample our guest ciders and make sure you let us know which is your favourite. Just ask a member of staff for a taste to help you decide which one you are going to sample first."

We’re kicking off the Festival in style with three fantastic local ciders: Burrow Hill ‘Alf n Alf’ (a medium dry Somerset cider - what’s served on the legendary Somerset Cider bus at Glastonbury!), Burrow Hill Somerset (a sparkling, medium-dry Somerset cider) and Hecks Kingston Black (a single-variety sparkling medium cider made from the famous Kingston Black apple).

Prices

  • Alf n Alf £3.60 a pint
  • Burrow Hill  £3.50 a pint
  • Hecks £3.70 a pint

About Bristol Cider Shop

Bristol Cider Shop is one of the country’s foremost authorities on cider and is a showcase for the very best cider and perry in the West Country. They stock over 100 varieties of award-winning cider and they only sell ‘proper’ cider made within 50 miles of Bristol from 100% fresh pressed juice.

You can visit their new shop at Cargo in Wapping Wharf. Cider and perry is available to take away by the bottle or you can bring a jug and fill it up with draught. Their entire range is now available to try by the glass and they do a fine line of West Country cheese to go with it.

If you want to learn more about cider then you can sign up for one of their Friday night cider tastings. Tastings last an hour and a half and include 10 different ciders plus bread and cheese. They are very relaxed and lots of fun but don’t expect to drive home afterwards!
