‘We Are Forests’ is a new sonic artwork by Duncan Speakman and Émilie Grenier that will use mobile technologies to connect strangers in a fascinating experience. For this talk, Speakman and Grenier will discuss the work at the end of its first stage of development.

Throughout February, the artists have been resident at the Pervasive Media Studio. Here they have explored the subtleties of social dialogue in public space; examined current modes of spoken communication between strangers; and experimented with possible technology systems that could be used within the piece. During this event, Speakman and Grenier will discuss the work in progress and invite your thoughts about the project.

‘We Are Forests’ is being developed as part of a cross-European residency programme, supported by the Pervasive Media Studio, Netherlands Media Arts Institute (Nimk), Kitchen Budapest and 5daysoff festival. Between February and May 2011, the artists will spend supported time at each lab, to produce different aspects of the work.

Come along to learn more about the artists and their practice, hear more about the project, and share your thoughts and opinions on the work.

Speakman and Grenier will be resident at 5daysoff festival in March, followed by Nimk and Kitchen Budapest. Track their progress online as they work across Europe, towards a final event in Bristol, May 2011.
