Mandy Rose is a Senior Research Fellow at the Digital Cultures Research Centre, University of the West of England and Pervasive Media Studio resident. Mandy has been involved with participatory media for nearly two decades. She was co-founder and producer of BBC 2’s Video Nation project, and as Editor of New Media at BBC Cymru Wales she oversaw award-winning interactive and participatory projects including Capture Wales, Voices and MyScienceFictionLife.

Co-creation, crowd-funding, open rights frameworks and distribution; Mandy’s talk will look at what’s happening where documentary meets networked culture. Mandy will illustrate her talk with examples of recent productions and introduce her own work-in-progress, “The Are you happy? Project” – for which filmmakers around the world have re-visited Rouch & Morin’s seminal documentary “Chronique d’un Ete”.

Mandy says; “The talk title is borrowed from the Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek who used it about the impact of the Occupy Movement on the field of politics. It has stayed with me as it applies so well to documentary now – which seems to be shifting towards a practice with fantastic potential to help us debate what kind of world we want and maybe even to change it.”

This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week.

Do you want to find out what is going on at the Pervasive Media Studio? Are you interested in meeting our residents, talking about a specific project or curious about pervasive media? Why not pack a sandwich and join us for one of our Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday.

Lunchtime Talks are informal presentations by Studio residents and associates. They normally take place at 1pm on Friday, are free and open to everybody who’s interested in what we do.

After the Talk, we also invite you to stay with us for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Our open afternoons close at 5pm.

Let us know if you’d like a tour of the space and we'll be happy to show you around! Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
