In this talk digital media artist and filmmaker Karen Palmer will be exploring how combining Art, Tech and Gamification can focus and train the mind and ultimately empower the user.

Karen is the creator of SYNCSELF 2, a Transmedia Parkour Neurogame, an immersive storytelling experience in which the obstacles that the freerunners face within a film are determined by the user's mental focus.

SYNCSELF 2 uses EEG solution digitised analog electrical brainwaves to power the use-interface of the film. As EEG biosensors translates brain activity into action.

It simulates the focus that a free runner experiences to be present in the moment.

Karen will be showing a demo of the experience and exploring how media and entertainment can be used to tune in and switch on instead of switching off, by creating an immersive storytelling experience. She will discuss the development process for the project and how the Storytelling defined the Technology and user experience. We look forward to a lively discussion with you all in the Q&A.

Karen Palmer’s fusion of Art, Tech and Wellbeing has received exposure on an international platform. This year she exhibited SYNCSELF 2 at the V&A - Digital Design Weekend. Karen recently presented at Conducttr Conference and previously at Ogilvy Transmedia Conference. She was also a Speaker at the International WOW Talks at The Apple Store Regent Street - In conjunction with The London Design Festival. In 2015 she will be a Keynote speaker at DiGRA 2015 Germany and will be showcasing her work at Sheffield interactive 2015, but first she is coming to Bristol to talk to us!

This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week.

Do you want to find out what is going on at the Pervasive Media Studio? Are you interested in meeting our residents, talking about a specific project or curious about pervasive media? Why not pack a sandwich and join us for one of our Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday.

Lunchtime Talks are informal presentations by Studio residents and associates. They normally take place at 1pm on Friday, are free and open to everybody who’s interested in what we do.

After the Talk, we also invite you to stay with us for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Our open afternoons close at 5pm.

Let us know if you’d like a tour of the space and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
