Verity is a Senior Lecturer in Virtual and Extended Realities at UWE Bristol.

This Lunchtime Talk will be broadcast live on Watershed's YouTube channel

During lockdown, Verity McIntosh has been hugging strangers, going to the theatre, visiting foreign countries and making a mortal enemy of an ass-hat named Pablo. That is to say she has been spending a fair amount of time in ‘Social VR’. Social VR apps such as AltSpace and VR Chat are a new (ish) breed of virtual reality platform designed to give people from around the world a place to gather and spend time together.

In this talk, Verity will share some of the good, the bad, and the downright ridiculous things she has observed during her adventures in multi-person VR. She will also share some thoughts about the impact of COVID-19 for the immersive industry, her own experience of teaching during lockdown, and a few educated guesses about where this might all be going next.

Verity is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) where she runs the pioneering MA Virtual and Extended Realities course. One of the first of its kind, MA Virtual and Extended Realities is an industry-led, practice-based course exploring the politics, business and culture of immersive technologies.

Read more about the MA Virtual and Extended Realities course here.

Join us on Fri 23rd October, 13:00-14:00 for the talk and to take part in the discussion afterwards.
