Regrettably due to the weather warnings we have taken the decision to postpone the workshops.

Some of the workshop facilitators and participants would need to travel to and from London, which is no longer advisable for health and safety reasons. We are also aware that some participants will be affected by school and nursery closures.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will publish new workshop dates shortly. Places will be offered to original workshop bookers first, before being opened to general booking.

In case you missed it, you can watch back last week’s Imagining Possibilities talks online here.

Workshop information

Media Molecule "Dreams" Workshop -  Creating Green Games and Interactives with Dreams.

Media Molecule is a video game development studio, part of the PlayStation Worldwide Studios. They are the creators of the multi-award winning games LittleBigPlanet, Tearaway  and Dreams.

Dreams allows players to create anything from games to gadgets, music to movies, puzzles to paintings and everything in-between and beyond - all from their own sofa, with just a PS4 or PS5. Dreams is also a platform where you can share and collaborate with others or just play and explore the creations of people around the world.

In this workshop, learn what Dreams can do and what was created as part of a collaboration with the UN’s Play for the Planet initiative. During the session you will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the Dreams tool kit. All participants will be supplied with a PlayStation code to download Dreams for free so they can explore the creative tool and platform in their own time. After the workshop, participants are invited to follow up with Media Molecule’s Business Development Manager, Sarah Brin, for a one-on-one to deepen their understanding and explore how to use Dreams as part of their creative practice and, if desired, discuss possible collaboration opportunities.

Straight8 “Super 8MM” Workshop - Making New Films with Old Tech

Filmmaker, Ed Sayers is the creator and founder of globally renowned STRAIGHT 8 - a highly competitive filmmaking challenge that has been running for over 20 years, where filmmakers are invited to make a film with one roll of Super 8mm film with no retakes, no editing or post-production. And the very best are shown at a leading film festival, in livestreams, always without the filmmakers seeing their work before it’s publicly unveiled. In this Super 8 filmmaking masterclass Ed’s going to share how to make new films with old tech and discuss how in some ways it could be a greener creative response to making films in a time of climate.  This workshop will cover:

  • An intro to the Super 8mm filmmaking process with a practical look at, and feel of the *tech*.
  • Showcase of films made on Super 8 for the STRAIGHT 8 competition and how they achieved their results.
  • How to get the best out of Super 8 and how it and STRAIGHT 8 can positively affect all of your filmmaking.

These workshops are part of Watershed's The Future is Collective programme, supported by Arts Council England. They are  also partially funded by Bristol + Bath Creative R+D.
