This talk will take the audience on a focused, visual tour of holographic displays — examining what’s already possible today and what remains in the realm of science fiction. Using familiar visual anchors such as the gesture-driven interfaces from Minority Report, Fry’s performance on the holophonor from Futurama, and Princess Leia’s holographic message from Star Wars, we will analyse the displays of today and tomorrow.

Expect a high-level exploration of the technical and practical hurdles that separate film from reality, and how creative practice and engineering are converging to close that gap. With over six years’ experience in software development for holographic displays, Vincent Baidoo will share insights from his work and his perspective on where the holographic animation industry is likely to head over the next few years.

The Lunchtime talks take place in the Pervasive Media Studio Event Space. To access the Studio, please go to the Main Watershed Box Office entrance and go upstairs to the Café Bar. Walk across the cafe bar, turn right and walk towards the double doors. Go through into the corridor and walk all the way down until you reach the Studio. A member of staff will sign you in, and check your ticket, if you have booked.

The Studio is wheelchair accessible, and the events space has a hearing loop. The last talk of every month is BSL interpreted.
