First Friday is a monthly social and showcasing event open to anyone. It takes place in the Pervasive Media Studio every First Friday throughout the year except for August and January.
This month is a special collaboration co-produced between the Pervasive Media Studio and Muti Live. The group of event production trainees are; Lily Drury, Abigail Humphrey, Kevser Kulaligil, Phoebe Mulcahy, Milena Paccani, Gabriella Songui, Berta Szabó, Rose Wardlaw, and Billie Appleton. They've chosen the theme of Light in the Darkness asking the question: As we move towards winter, as the nights get longer, colder and the year comes to an end, what is your light in the darkness?
This month we'll see work from Studio Residents:
- James Wheale - Trepanner a project exploring what it means to be human through sound, space, and spirituality.
- Jon Somerscales - Phycologica an interactive, immersive installation showcasing microalgae’s ability to isolate carbon through the animating power of breath.
- Holly Thomas - Half Light, taking audiences on a journey through the shifting sensory landscapes of twilight, absolute night and sonic sunrise.
- Beloved Sara Zaltash - Artist, astrologer and musician, sharing the first glimpses into a new narrative astronomy project called 'Interstellar Animism’, which reimagines the embodied human experience in relationship with the living sky.
- Skye McColl - A photographer who will be sharing recent works exploring how water shapes the natural and urban environments around Watershed. Investigating flow, texture, reflection, and light to capture the quiet vitality of Bristol’s waterways and harbourside in the colder season.
After the event, attendees are welcome to continue conversations in the Café & Bar.
