About Urban Knights

Established in 2013 as a means to bring together people who are actively producing alternatives to our given city infrastructures, norms and perceptions. Urban Knights acts as a bridging point and archive of new urban practices. To date the programme has taken place in Dublin, Berlin, Aberdeen and Vienna. Urban Tourism

Urban tourism is considered as a form of urban regeneration, as it has the potential to generate substantial economic, social and environmental benefits. Equally, cities as destination spots and party capitals can cause local upset and unrest as residents are pushed out due to higher costs of living and, or feelings of alienation and neglect. This issue of Urban Knights addresses how artistic and cultural practices are positioned in relation to urban tourism and city branding.

Confirmed speakers including academic Dr. Johannes Novy; artist and co-founder of the Cube Bristol, Graeme Hogg and Director of Bristol Cultural Development Partnership and Bristol Festival of Ideas, Andrew Kelly.

Each speaker will present their ideas for 10-mins, followed by questions and conversations with the audience. In keeping presentations short, the aim is to create a salon atmosphere where key thematics are introduced and time is provided for speaker and audience enagement. The session will be moderated by Watershed & UWE, Professor of City Futures, Teresa Dillon.
