Joss Affleck (they/them) is a BAFTA award-winning, Bath-born multidisciplinary performer, artist, animator and educator working across film, animation, design, visual art, and live performance.

Their practice draws on ritual, ecology, folklore, and queer storytelling, exploring how narratives and identities shift, break, and reform when pushed. They work across two connected strands: Studio Misterllaneous, a motion design and animation studio creating work for screens, live performance, and live art; and Mister Llaneous, their independent performance practice. Joss created Mister Llaneous as a creative persona who exists in the gaps between forms, identities, and expectations, shaped by a queer, non-binary lens, seeking to provoke change by turning systems on their head.

Studio Misterllaneous collaborates with artists, brands, and cultural institutions to create bold visual worlds for theatre, music, and broadcast. Alongside this, under Mister Llaneous, Joss creates experimental, participatory performance work that blends audio-visual elements with ritual, ecology, folklore and queer storytelling, exploring how narratives, systems, and rituals can be bent, remade, or misbehave.

They are currently developing their first audio-visual solo show, The Skin Show, a deeply surreal, tenderly powerful folk-horror séance with dark comedy, drag-ish energy, folklore, and a dead granny. The show blends live visuals, sound, and performance, exploring themes of identity, generational trauma, inheritance, and what it means to live in a body that doesn’t feel like your own.

Alongside this, Joss is developing The School of Unlearning, an alternative MA based at Pervasive Media Studio. The programme is rooted in accessibility and life-wide learning, prioritising those who have faced barriers to traditional arts education. It creates space for collaborative, experimental, and non-hierarchical ways of learning, where lived experience is valued alongside artistic practice.
