Lunchtime Talk: Adventures in the Absurd
Mechanical sculptor Nik Ramage will show a collection of his useless machines and absurd devices, giving a glimpse into the genesis of ideas – the ones that got realised and the ones that got away.
Nik Ramage is a mechanical sculptor, bringing odd ideas to life with moving parts and found objects. Adventures in the Absurd will show a collection of Nik’s useless machines and absurd devices, giving a glimpse into the genesis of ideas – the ones that got realised and the ones that got away. There will be examples of how the machines have escaped into real life away from galleries, including along the harbour, in front of the Watershed.
Nik has been making sculptural contraptions and absurd objects for over thirty years. He has been commissioned to make a mechanical ceiling for a private dining room, a chain reaction machine in a 60,000 square foot warehouse and moving decorations for Paul Smith’s Christmas tree at Claridge’s. He is an academician at the RWA, Bristol and a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. He lives in Monmouthshire and works in two sheds.
Join us online on YouTube Live, or in the building on Friday 24th July at 13:00 for the talk and to take part in the Q&A discussion afterwards.
