Theatre Sandbox
Watershed's Theatre Sandbox was produced in 2010, and was one of the UK's first funding schemes to support artists to develop new work using digital technologies.
It was also one of the first funding schemes Watershed based in Pervasive Media Studio, and its influence ensures many residents are still drawn from a theatre or performance background.
The six theatre sandbox commissions were selected by a team of leading theatre-makers and producers for their artistic merit, their approach and their openness to collaborative working. The scheme was produced in collaboration with Bristol Old Vic, Soho Theatre, Lyric, Hammersmith, mac, Contact and The Junction and supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
From Duncan Speakman and Univited Guest's Give Me Back My Broken Night, to Proto-type Theater's Fortnight Project - the artists and projects supported through Theatre Sandbox have gone on to create ground breaking work using by creative technologies, forefronting audience experience over novelty and screens.
