Julia Ronneberger
Julia is a freelance Creative Technologist and Unity Developer. She works on Immersive Experiences, uses technology to blur the lines between physical and virtual and loves playing with tactile elements in digital worlds.
Julia is a Creative Technologist with a background in Immersive Technologies and a passion for merging virtual and physical worlds to create experiences that spark wonder and awe.
She is currently working on a BDFI Seedcorn funded project exploring "Audience-Centric VR", and she is especially interested in Accessibility and Inclusion in XR, and in creating immersive, interactive, Multi-Sensory XR experiences.
Her education includes a MEng in Mathematical Computation and a MA in Virtual and Extended Realities. Her Master’s project "Cognition" (co-developed with Eirini) explores how immersion and the feeling of presence are affected when adding a physical set into a VR experience. Julia introduced playful, tactile elements into Cognition’s narrative, such as interactive miniature doors that could be physically opened to help virtual characters move around the space.
As a C# Engineer at Ultraleap, Julia contributed to their Unity Plugin, containing hand-tracking implementations and example content, and implemented demo experiences to showcase best practices for hand-tracking in XR.
She also contributed to the award-winning VR narrative experience "Goliath" by Anagram, as a Junior Unity Developer, focussing on Asset Integration, Vetting and QA.
Julia's past projects include:
- Cognition: A Virtual Reality experience combined with a tactile, kinematic set.
- MR Owltraleap: A virtual pet owl in Mixed Reality, including a real egg and cardboard box (= incubator).
- Dino Dig: An educational archeology experience in Mixed Reality, where your living room wall turns into a haptic excavation site.
- Zesty: An AI lemonade expert that playfully assesses lemons, built as part of PM Studio’s MakeShift Camp.
- And a bunch more :)
