To coincide with Earth Day 2023, The Felling is a true David-and-Goliath story of the battle to stop Sheffield Council’s controversial tree felling programme, assembled from footage shot by local photographer Jacqui Bellamy by Edit Director Eve Wood.

When an injunction threatens peaceful protesters with bankruptcy and imprisonment, ordinary citizens are forced to ask themselves the crucial question: How far am I prepared to go to save a tree?

The Felling is the first-hand account of a community of determined residents in one of Europe’s greenest cities. This is their story of how they battled peacefully with a powerful city council, a giant multinational corporation and the police, to prevent the felling of their beloved street trees in the middle of the night, as part of a massive £2.2 billion private contract to maintain their city's highways.
